Hanover, 17 April 2023 - As part of the traditional Chancellor's tour on the first day of the Hanover Fair Industry, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Indonesian President Joko Widodo visited the stand of the ifm group of companies in Hall 9. Michael Marhofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of the group of companies, showed the guests around the stand and explained to them the advantages of intelligent measurement technology and digital data communication using the example of a water filtration plant from the partner company Enviro Falk. The plant provides ultrapure water as required, for example, for hydrogen production, in medical technology or in the automotive industry. The sensor technology from ifm ensures the smooth running of the filtration process and the quality of the ultrapure water.

The potential of digitalization in such applications is, for example, to generate valuable information from the data generated by the sensors, which can then be used at the IT level for further measures such as process optimization or predictive maintenance planning. For such Industry 4.0 applications, ifm offers a perfect solution with the IIoT platform moneo. At the trade fair stand, the high-ranking visitors were able to get an idea of how smart maintenance can be implemented with it, for example. Augmented reality glasses from Magic Leap, which use a 3D camera from pmdtechnologies, a company belonging to ifm, impressively show how information from moneo is made available to the user directly on site at the plant.

Of particular interest to the Indonesian President: ifm opened a new location in Indonesia at the beginning of March in order to accompany the digitalization of the Asian economic area with a stronger presence. "With our local competence we will from now on support Indonesian companies even more precisely in the digitalization of their production processes," says Michael Marhofer. In this way, ifm is also making a contribution to the successful implementation of the digitalization initiative "Making Indonesia 4.0".

Another eye-catcher at the ifm stand - also for Chancellor Scholz and President Widodo - was undoubtedly the ifm truck, which was specially driven into the hall this year for ifm Recruiting World 4.0. There, interested parties from different areas learn everything about career entry and career options within the ifm group of companies. Currently there are more than 300 vacancies in the group of companies.

Older robot vacuum cleaners used a random, inefficient, and slow cleaning pattern. Smart robots generate a map of their environment using sensors and simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) to localize, providing users with a floorplan from which areas can be selected for cleaning, or restricted from access. This whitepaper describes designing slimmer robots with new features using an approach with novel time-of-flight cameras.

Visual sensing technology enables robots to observe, understand, and interact with their environment, much like humans. In a busy logistics warehouse, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) swiftly transport goods, avoiding obstacles and calculating optimal paths.
