Development engineer for optoelectronic semiconductor components and assembly technology solutions (m/f/d)

Location: Ulm

Referenz No.: 2021-1690

We at pmdindustrial...

...are pioneers in the field of optical 3D Time-of-Flight measurement technology. We work together with experts from the industry in specialised teams and improve the sensor technology (at the Ulm location in particular the components used for light generation) and thus the products of the ifm electronic group. Our work has a direct impact on the next generation of industrial cameras, sensors and robots that will be used by people all around the world.

Your tasks:

You will develop innovative semiconductor-based light sources for distance-measuring optical sensors together with other engineers and physicists in an interdisciplinary and cross-location project team. After your introductory period, you will be able to derive the specifications for the optoelectronic transmission components from the system requirements and design light-emitting semiconductor chips tailored to them. As an all-rounder, you will provide support in all phases of product development from the drafting of the design and sample construction through to series production. This includes, among others, the independent execution of semiconductor processing steps in the clean room, assembly and connection technology, the maintenance of technical documentation, the comprehensive characterisation of the components in the laboratory and communication with suppliers.

Your profile:

  • Successfully completed technical studies (physics, engineering or comparable studies) with doctorate or several years of professional experience
  • Experience in the design of light-emitting optoelectronic semiconductor components
  • Experience with semiconductor process technology, preferably with gallium arsenide based components (LEDs and lasers)
  • Experience with the creation of technical documentation and process improvements
  • Basic knowledge of semiconductor physics, optics, electronic circuits and chip-on-board assembly technology
  • Good command of German and English, both written and spoken
  • Independent working methodology, analytical skills and systematic way of working

Your advantages:

  • Wide range of tasks and varied, innovative activities
  • Implementation of developments in the laboratory and clean room
  • Company pension scheme and flexible working hours
  • Attractive basic salary with variable remuneration components
  • Regular, individual advanced training
  • Internal health management and family service
